Before becoming a Biology professor, I sang in choirs, bars and clubs in the Chicago area, and was manager of the Quiet Knight, a folk-jazz-blues club. Music led to my interest in the natural world, as did a job with the Voyageur Wilderness Programme in Canada. For my material, I use a blend of traditional musical styles with my own lyrics, often with environmental themes.
